Signs of Grace at Palavakkam

Our Shrine is known as a sanctuary of hope, drawing people of all backgrounds seeking comfort and healing.

The Rapid Elevation to a Shrine

Typically, churches take decades or centuries to be designated as Diocesan Shrines. In the case of Palavakkam, the rapid growth, the sheer volume of miracles reported by pilgrims, and the intense spiritual devotion of the parish led to its elevation to the status of a Shrine in just nine years after its consecration—a milestone heralded as a miracle in itself.

Mrs. Sukumar's Dream of Angels

The very land the Shrine stands upon (38 M.G.R. Road) was originally owned by the Sukumar family. Mrs. Jayanthi Christina Sukumar had a vivid dream of angels resting on this ground, expressing a desire for it to become a retreat center. This vision led to the couple's conversion and the transfer of the land to the Archdiocese, making the construction of the Shrine possible.

The Seashore Tuesday Devotion

When the thatched chapel in Palkalai Nagar was active, Tuesday quickly became a day of immense grace. Even after the chapel was temporarily demolished, the devotion of the faithful remained unshaken. Today, thousands of people—irrespective of religion, language, or caste—flock to the Seashore Shrine every Tuesday to offer buns, light oil lamps, and pray for St. Anthony's intercession.
